“When my ex finally found a new gf, he stopped stalking me! Thank goodness!”

My friend was telling me about her experience with a crazy ex. I was thinking about why this happens. We think love is a one time and exclusive emotion that will get you stuck on one person forever and ever, but actually once you find a replacement, the former lover is no better than an old toy. You can completely forget about them because this different person can evoke the same emotion.

That’s why love is a completely stupid and useless emotion. It’s not dependable at all.

  • The ex wasn’t exhibiting love, but rather obsession, quite a different thing. If he truly loved her, he would want her to be happy rather than thinking about how to satisfy his own needs and desires. Pure love is selfless, not selfish.Pure love is also not easily discarded or replaced.

  • Agreed, until we/I have kids that is. I think that’s when i’ll know what true love is.And that’s why I have an appreciation for pain. It lets your raw emotions out.

  • I agree partially, Elaine.  I mostly (if not entirely agreew ith SoullFire.  Love for another, deeply rooted affections, are not easily extirpated.  On the other hand, egotism or other things, masquerading as love (of others) under the name of love (whereas they are actually love of self), isn’t that hard to redirect elsewhere.Or as I like to say, never trust narcissists.

  • I was just thinking of this and your other post on what you want to do when I was watching this and wanted to share it with you:http://www.upworthy.com/this-is-what-it-looks-like-when-the-king-of-the-nerds-gives-your-infant-daughter-a-pep-talk-7?c=ufb1
