  • Crumb

I just watched a movie about an artist named Crumb. It cemented my belief that all (or most) artists have to suffer or enjoy suffering in one way or another to create great art. They are also usually weird outsiders who don’t fit in with the usual mold.

  • Also non artists that don’t fit in the usual mold, have to suffer a lot.

  • ::Laughter:: I did not see this post before mentioning Crumb yesterday.  I haven’t seen it since maybe 2006?  But I remember some parts of it very vividly.  Have you seen other movies by Terry Zweigoff?  Ghost World, Bad Santa, Art School Confidential? How can a literary artist create great art without having exposure to suffering?  Entire realms of human experience will be closed off without that…  As for visual and auditory…  I don’t know as much about those fields.  Personally, I find painless art disgusting, but that might just be me ;’D  Saccharine music?  Vomit…

  • @jedeyeyam – no, I haven’t seen any of his other movies. I bought Steven one of those ’1001 movies you should see before you die’ books and it mentioned Crumb, which happened to be on Netflix which he has a sub for, so that’s why we decided to watch it. I thought Crumb was really disturbing in some ways – particularly his eccentric and somewhat sadistic view of women.
